It had such a long list of categories that it was longer than the content of the page.
to compress that long list into a dropdown menu:
You must choose the option: appearance/widgets
You must select the “block” from the list of categories
In the menu on the right: select the “display as dropdown” option
Then you press the “update” button (in the top)
Observe the results:
