As I understand it:

Fusion 360 is high level, design
Ultimaker Cura is low level, it generates the instructions to print the object generated by Fusion 360

steps: fusion 360 -> ultimaker cura -> 3d printer

what to do to print?

  • Export the object from Fusion 360: In Fusion 360, select the object you want to export and click “File” > “Export” > “STL” (or another format supported by Ultimaker Cura).
  • Import the object into Ultimaker Cura: In Ultimaker Cura, click “File” > “Import” > “STL” (or the format you exported from Fusion 360) and select the file you exported.
  • Prepare the object for 3D printing: In Ultimaker Cura, you can adjust print settings such as resolution, speed, and temperature to prepare the object for 3D printing.

fusion 360: 3d printing modeling and simulation software

you can use fusion 360 collaboratively, like github.

fusion 360 has remix, it is the equivalent of a branch in git

generative design: fusion 360 option with ai, it is paid, it tells you how to keep the same structure with less material, its properties, aerodynamics, weight.

Popular design software for printing 3d:
SolidWorks, Rhino, Cinema 4d
See which format to export in SolidWorks, Rhino, Cinema4d to work in Fusion 360

SolidWorks, Rhino, Cinema 4D and Fusion 360 are all 3D design and modeling programs
each program has its own strengths and is used in different industries:

  • SolidWorks is primarily used in mechanical engineering and prototyping.
  • Rhino is used in architecture, product design, and creating accurate 3D models.
  • Cinema 4D is used in creating 3D scenes, animations, and visual effects for the entertainment and advertising industry.
  • SolidWorks focuses on mechanical engineering and prototyping.
  • Rhino focuses on modeling complex curves and surfaces.
  • Cinema4D focuses on creating 3D graphics and animations.
  • Fusion 360 focuses on creating parametric designs and cloud collaboration.
  • Interface: Each program’s interface is different, with different tools and features available.

They are the owners of Fusion 360 and AutoCAD (they are Autodesk products)

ultimaker cura:

  • free, opensource mac, linux and windows
  • fusion 360 + ultimaker cura (Both are used)
  • fusion 360: create and model 3d objects
  • ultimaker cura: intermediate program so that the printer knows how to print the object
  • ask which printer you are going to use, they have all the ones on the market
  • you can set the print quality
  • Cura can import and export files in formats such as STEP, IGES, STL, Object.

The person who makes a 3D print is called a maker and can belong to the maker community.
